What are the 6 T’s of good literacy teaching? (Richard Allington)
A
The 6 T’s are:
- Talk (time for meaningful and authentic talk)
- Tasks (that are engaging, challenging, collaborative and authentic)
- Teach (explicit teaching of the strategies and skills required)
- Test (both formative and summative to inform future teaching and to report)
- Texts (quality and varied texts)
- Time (time on continuous texts for R and W, giving time to finish tasks).

What are some important ideas to instil when students are reading and writing texts to entertain?
A
- Meaningful creation of text (for a purpose)
- Understanding the role of both the writer and the reader/audience.
When reading - meaning making, thinking critically and making connections to self/texts/world.
When writing - conveying a meaning, sharing a point of view, controlling language features, acknowledging the intended audience.

What 3 things are we aiming to teach about texts to entertain? And what are these being taught through?

The focus is:
1- composition of texts
2- process of writing
3- presentation of texts
This is taught through:
- whole texts (looking at the purpose, structure, cohesion and sequence)
- sentences and words (syntax, grammar, vocabulary choices, spelling and punctuation).
