Talk as a process is:
- spoken-like
- talk which leads to performance/product/writing etc.
- social
- taught through modelling and guided experiences.
- assessed through interactions/negotiation, language choices, body language.
Talk as a performance is:
- written-like, formal
- has an audience and is purposeful
- aims to articulate what the student knows/understands
- taught through modelling and explicit expectations for performance.
- assessed through news time, speeches, debating etc. and looking at voice, language choices, movement, engagement.

What is involved in listening?
A
Listening is an active process which involves hearing, interpreting, making connections to, and evaluating/judging information.

What are the 3 types of listening?
A
- Aesthetic: conveying experience, emotion, giving the audience a picture e.g. story, poem, myth.
- Efferent: take away message for audience, giving factual and logical information e.g. news report, business presentation.
- Critical: perspectives and messages offered, listener evaluates and responds.
