Week 4: How Environment Shapes Behaviour Flashcards
What are the 9 environments Leonard theorised are interconnected.
-Memetic
-Body
-Self
-Spiritual
-Relationships
-Networks
-Financial
-Physical orientation
-Nature
What is the difference between memetic and self?
Memetic- can choose
Self- You can’t help the way you were born.
Why study the 9 environments?
These environments impact our behaviour, and improving these environments can improve our behaviour. Vice versa, although will power takes up a proportion of behaviour.
Socio-economical influences
The path of least resistance behaviourly, make it the default choice
What aspect about you isn’t a product of your environment? we always optimise resources.
Environmental Cues
-Create focus
-Cause distraction
-Cognitive resources are finite, the easiest option.
If our energy is needlessly directed elsewhere, what is it specifically called?
Tolerations.
Jim Bunch proposes that the 9 aspects can either … us or … us
Inspire us or expire us.
Fulfill vs stress
Jim Bunch emphasised that it is our purpose to evolve. With the 9 environments, how can we do this?
By purposefully designing each of the 9 environments, instead of relying on default.
What are socio-environmental enablers and constraints?
Opportunities
Flow-on effect
Bi-directional
Thomas Leonard vs Jim Bunch
Tolerations will
diffuse our energy. Creating the experience of hassle.
