what is a general survey
a brief study of the whole person’s general health state & obvious physical characteristics
body build: ectomorph, endomorph, mesomorphic
ectomorph = slender
endomorph = bulky, gains weight
mesomorphic = athletic/muscular

not all old people have pain but more prone to because of possible conditions
3 pain scales & what pts use each
- numeric rating scale: cognitively intact adults
- verbal descriptor scale: for cognitively intact pts
- face pain scale: hearing impaired, verbal comm., pt patients
mild, moderate, & severe pain numbers
mild = 1-3
moderate = 4-6
severe = 7-10
what happens if pain is rated from 1-6?
-assess PQRTU
-then report to nurse or CI
what happens if pain is rated greater than or equal to 7?
-assess Q & R
-then report to nurse or CI QRS
