Week 2 Lecture - Research Questions Flashcards
Name 3 places where research questions come from.
- clinical expertise
- clinical theory
- professional literature
Name the 4 components of a research question.
Population or Problem
Intervention
Comparison or Control
Outcomes
declarative statements that predict the relationship btwn the independent and dependent variables.
research hypothesis
there is no difference or relationship between variables.
null hypothesis
the opposite of a null hypothesis; states that there is a difference between the variables. Rejection of the null hypothesis, can be directional or nondirectional
alternative hypothesis
Name the characteristics of a good research question.
- importance
- ethical
- feasible (Sample size, available resources, scope of the project, expertise)
Name 3 steps for developing a research question.
- identify the problem.
- identify the rationale.
- identify the type of research.
How do we develop the rationale for our research question?
- Review of the literature
- Theoretical framework
Normative data
average
Collecting normative data is what type of clinical research? * exam question
Descriptive bc we’re describing/looking at data about the population.
relates 2 concepts together.
postulates
tests reliability of research tools
methodological study
there is no difference or there will be a difference but it was not stated if it will be a positive or negative difference
nondirectional hypothesis
