What is the most common disorder out of:
- Bullimia
- Anorexia
- Binge Eating
Bullimia
- Restriction of energy intake leading to significantly low body weight
- Intense fear of gaining weight and becoming fat, or persistent behaviour that prevents weight gain
- Disturbance in the experience of body image
Anorexia
What do these symptoms suggest?
- Dry skin & lips
- Brittle nails
- Bruises easy
- Poor circulation
- Low iron levels
- Constipation
- Irregular periods
- Dehydration
- Loss of bone calcium
- Muscle loss, weakness or fatigue
Anorexia nervosa
What is Livedo Reticularis?
- Blush discolouration of the skin
- Reticular (lacy) pattern
- Often associated with low core temperature and metabolism
What is refeeding syndrome?
- Potentially fatal
- Calories are reintroduced after a period of starvation
- Eating within a discrete period of time an amount of food that is definitely larger than most individuals would eat
- Associated with a sense of lack of control over eating during the episode
- Recurrent compensatory behaviour to prevent weight gain (vomiting, laxatives, diuretics, medications, fasting, excessive exercise_
Bulimia
How long does the binge eating and compensatory behaviours have to occur before diagnosis?
On average 2x week for 3 months
Does bulimia or anorexia sometimes cause enlarged parotid glands?

- CBT
- Family therapy
- Recurrent episodes of binge eating
- Binge eating is associated with 3 or more of:
>eating until uncomfortably full
>eating rapidly
>eating when not hungry
>eating alone because of embarrassment
>feeling disgusted or guilty after eating
