What is primary homelessness?
A
- Does not have a conventional accommodation
- Rough sleepers- i.e. in parks, squatting in buildings

What is secondary homelessness?
A
- Those who frequently move from one form of temporary shelter to another
- Those who use emergency accommodation (hostels/night shelters)
- Those escaping domestic violence (DV refuges)
- Those who use boarding houses on an occasional basis

Mental illnesses in the homeless
A
- Depression
- Schizophrenia, bipolar, other psychotic disorders
- Anxiety
- PTSD

What is the HHOT service delivery model?
A
- Assertive outreach: brings the service to the people in their community setting
- Case management: embraces a holistic definition of health and recognises the importance of other factors that affect one’s health
- Collaborative response: co-ordination with other service providers including government and non-government agencies

What is assertive outreach?
A
- Go to where the consumer is
- See frequently
- Actively assist the consumer to achieve their own goals
- Provides assistance in all areas (drug an d alcohol, employment, housing, social connection)

- Assists consumer to set goals

- Assists consumer to evaluate and reset goals

- General: walking the streets
- Planned: attending places where another service provides services for the homeless (food, welfare)
