Constipation
Infrequent passage of hardened stool
Chyme
A predigested, acidified mass of food that passes from the stomach into the small intestine
Diarrhea
Frequent passage of loose, liquid stool
Fecal impactation
Retention of a large mass of hardened stool
Feces
Waste; undigested food; inorganic material
Flatus
Gas (flatus) is made in the stomach and intestines as your body breaks down food into energy
Cleansing enema
an enema, usually composed of soapsuds, administered to remove all formed fecal material from the colon
Hemoccult testing
A fecal occult blood test checks stool samples for traces of blood that cannot be seen with the naked eye
