Week 1 - Pelvis Overview Flashcards
What are the Functions of the Bony Pelvis?
- Locomotion -> muscle attachment for lower limb function
- Weight Distribution -> transfers weight from spine to lower limb
- Protection of organs
Label the other notable parts of this
Label notable parts of this
True vs False Pelvis
False pelvis technically resides in the abdominal cavity
What is the Perineum?
What are the borders?
= diamond-shaped space separated from the pelvis by a muscular pelvic diaphragm
Borders:
- Pubic symphysis
- Ischial tuberosities
- Coccyx
What are the major ligaments of the pelvis? and what does it connect to/from?
Sacrospinous ligament (from sacrum to ischial spine)
Sacrotuberous ligament (from sacrum to ischial tuberosity)
Name the 4 muscles of the Pelvis
Image is from a superior view
What are the passageways for Neurovasculature through the pelvis? (5 ways) & what goes through each pasageway?
Under the Inguinal ligament:
- becomes femoral VAN
Through the Inguinal Canal:
- contains spermatic cord contents for men // round ligament in females
Through the Obturator Canal:
- becomes obturator VAN
Through Greater Sciatic Foramen:
- becomes Gluteal VAN
- + Pudendal nerve and Internal pudendal vasculature go through here
Through the Urogenital Hiatus:
- Autonomics innervating external genitalia go through here
Positional relationships of Pouches for females
Label the major muscles of the urinary bladder
Picture is a female’s
In males, Urethra is much longer with 18-20cm long
What do Paraurethral/Skene’s glands? and where are they?
- Secrete mucus into urethra and vesicle -> protect urethral tract
Label the main parts of the Uterus and Adnexa
What are the Ligaments of the Uterus? (There’s 5)
