(prob not super important) how the 12 tribes of Israel came about

A
  • Abraham becomes the first “Jew” and God calls him to be his representative. Jacob is a descendant of Abraham.
  • Jacob decides he wants to marry Rachel. Jacob works for her dad. He worked for rachel but now he has two sister wives. Lea has children but Rachel doesn’t. Handmaiden is introduced, then another, now there’s like 4 women. (bro this was confusing im sorry)
  • Out of this dysfunction come the 12 sons of Israel. The 12 tribes of Israel.

Q

Was it actually written by Daniel at that time? (598 - 605)

A
  • Some argue it was written in 150 BC with a struggle against the greeks.
  • Not actually Daniel as the author? Secular scholars believe this because so many things in Daniel end up looking like it tells the future. If you are secular and don’t believe in prophecy, then u think Daniel wrote history as if it were prophecy.
