The Three Gorges?

A

China,

Approved by government in 1992 but completed in 2006,

20
Q

Water Surplus?

A

Enough water or more than enough water.

21
Q

Water Deficit?

A

Not enough water.

22
Q

Precipitation Is Low, Temperatures Are High? What Will Happen?

A

There will be a water deficit because evaporation will take place but precipitation will not replace it.

23
Q

Precipitation Is High, Temperatures Are Low? What Will Happen?

A

Water surplus because evaporation will not take place on the precipitation.

24
Q

Whats Water Scarcity?

A

When the amount of water a place has doesn’t meet the demand for the population.

25
Q

Swimming pools,
As countries get wealthier (which is happening), leisure becomes more important,

30% of water is lost through leaks in the pipes,

Thames Water is a water company looking to fix this,

London Ring Main.

Carries more than 1300 million litres of water each day,

Being extended all over London,

More efficient,

50 mikes long.

30
Q

Case Study’s?

A

The Uk and Sub-Saharan Africa (Ecuador).

31
Q

Desalination?

A

Process where Salt is removed from water to make it drinkable,

Not all pleased have access to this.

32
Q

What Is Being Done In Uk To Save Water?

A
Water meters,
Short flush toilets,
Using water butts in garden,
Hose pipe bans in period of drought,

Only in new houses,

Q

China Case Study?

A

Built 50 wells over the country,
Expensive but helped a lot of particular places,

Desalination plants which change sea water to drinking water,
East Coast of China,
By 2020, increase available drinking water by a third,

Government made a water census so they could see who had polluted water and where the main issues were,
This is good because made aware where biggest issues were,

Sent olympic team to over 1000 schools to raise awareness,
Not a good idea because it was expensive and didn’t change minds.
