water and carbon -impact of climate change Flashcards
what are the 4 impacts of climate change?
.global precipitation pattern
.more frequent and extreme weather events
.agricultural productivity reduced
.rise of sea levels
how is global precipitation patterns expected to change?
.wet areas are expected to get wetter and dry areas expected to get drier
what may happen if dry areas get drier?
.could result in water shortages in some areas which could lead to conflict in the future
why are extreme weather events going to become more frequent?
.storms, floods and droughts will become more frequent, these will affect all continents however less developed countries may be worse affected as they as less equipped to deal with the impacts eg -philippines
what could result from a decrease in agricultural productivity?
.in some areas, it could lead to food shortages, therefore prices of major crops may increase with the poorest suffering the most eg -subsaharan africa
what will happen as a result of rising sea levels?
.coastal and low lying areas flooding, and therefore increase rates of coastal erosion
