W8 - Surgical Implant - Finn Flashcards

1
Q

Why are “all on 4” implant setups a thing of the past? Problem?

A

“originally made as a cheaper alternative by surgeons who could not place graft”

Leaves no room for redundancy - if one implant fails on an all on 4, the entire prosthesis fails

Finn usually places 6 (if one fails, prosthesis will still function)

Q

What is a “composite defect” (OMFS)

  • how do you treat / address this?
A

Osseous / soft tissue / combo deficiency in edentulous ridge

  • Must be reconstructed either during or prior to implant placement

Q

What happens if you violate biological width with implant? (Coronal aspect placed too deep, more than 3mm subgingival)

A

Will lead to recession / BL / composite defect

Q

Anterior implant placement guideline (2)

A

Q

What must you examine before considering implant placement?

A

Occlusion → look for aberrant tooth movements or over eruption

  • ALWAYS TAKE STUDY MODELS - Can use study models to demonstrate this to patient for better understanding
