Q

Describe the marrow cellularity of children?

A

It is hypercellular. There are more hemapoietic cells in the marrow than other components making up the marrow eg fat cells and stromal cells

Q

Describe marrow cellularity of adults

Q

What is the use of iron stain?

A

To access presence of Fe within cells/tissue. The stain is used to diagnose iron deficiency anaemia and other hematological disoders

Q

What are the features showing that an iron stain was used?

A

-Firstly, iron stain is used on marrow aspirates
- The stain will show iron stores blue on macrophages.

*Iron stores are reserves of iron on macrophages

Q

What does increased iron stores entail, and what does reduced iron stores entail?

Q

A tumour growing around a bone spicule

A

Lymphoma infiltrate

*This where importance of trephines comes in. In aspirates you cannot see the tumours. U’ll misdiagnose them
