VSP Marketing Communications Intern Flashcards
Tell me about yourself.
Sophomore at the University of Washington
Business major - marketing
Spent time in college getting involved in marketing activities, through various student organizations
Did a marketing internship last summer as well
Gave a good foundation - looking to develop my skill set more, real-world experience
Find a focus within marketing - thought marketing communications was interesting - (what led me here today)
Why do you want to work at VSP? Why do you want this role?
This role:
Learn more about and get to work with consumer-facing communications, content development, and marketing strategy
Lot of variety and seemed like an opportunity where I could really learn a lot, and work on a number of interesting projects
VSP:
Mission resonated with me: Contacts + glasses are essential in my life (had to wear glasses since i was ~8)
Know the impact that VSP has in providing access to vision care
being a part of that would be very rewarding
Variety, present in different industries: vision care, eyewear, philanthropy - that mix sounded interesting to me
Interesting work + company’s values and mission, culture = great fit
…what led me to apply
What are your greatest strengths?
Strengths:
Communication
as a consultant/PM, during meetings with clients we’d have to talk through their goals and make sure everyone was on the same page
Curiosity
I enjoy learning about things that I don’t know
Helped me fully understand the projects/tasks that I work on
Seek out new experiences
Organization
Good with deadlines when on projects
Prioritizing what needs to be done and when
When I’m working on something I tend to divide things up into smaller
chunks so it’s easier to complete the whole thing
Thorough
Keep track of details
Can pay attention to multiple components of a project/task, so that everything
flows smoothly
What is your weakness?
Too much attention to detail/ focus too much on small things get lost in finer points and lose track of big picture
To try to fix that, when i’m working on something like a report or a presentation, I try to check in and remind myself of when that kind of precision is actually necessary, refocus my attention on what matters
