Business Ireland Flashcards
Why do you want to go to Ireland?
One of the main things I’m interested in is the company visits: I liked that this program involved a variety of businesses, like smaller companies and large U.S. firms
Program is super comprehensive: includes not just business, but also learning about history and culture — that was something that I was looking for in a study abroad program
I know that this program has a focus on different economic models in response to the recession and the pandemic, which I wanted to learn more about
Overall seemed like it would be a great learning experience
Why Ireland (specifically)
Ireland has a lot of history in things like music, language, art, entertainment
While I have some familiarity with Irish culture since it’s influenced the U.S., I’d like to see Irish culture in person and learn more about it
What do you plan to do with your free days while you are in [country]? What do you plan to do with your free evenings?
I know Dublin has a lot of interesting architecture, so I’d like to see that
I’d also be interested in explore some museums
Trinity College
I think when you go anywhere it’s important to try the food, so I’d like to try some restaurants & cafes
How does this program fit into your goals (academic/professional)?
One of my goals was to broaden my worldview — In my classes I’ve learned about international business, and I’m interested to see that more in person and see how foreign firms operate
I’m interested in possibly working internationally in the future, and studying abroad would definitely be a useful experience
Also in business in general, it’s important to have a global perspective - could be working with teams internationally or for a business that has customers internationally, and so I think it’s really useful to be able to understand other cultures
Why should we choose you/What can you contribute?
I know this program is very group-oriented
My experience in RSOs — I’m part of the exec board for UWiB (Undergrad Women in Business) and in AMA’s (American Marketing Association’s) consulting agency. Both have helped me develop clear communication, problem solving, and decision making skills with having to plan and execute events.
I know group collaboration will be important since we’ll be spending a lot of time together with company visits and other activities.
And there’s so much going on, I don’t expect that everything will go according to plan, and I know that being able to problem solve and adapt will be necessary. So I’d say I can contribute those skills.
