Define vocal fold nodule.
A
A benign lesion that is caused by frequent microtrauma to the vocal cords which leads to oedematous swelling and the development of fibrotic scars

What are the clinical features of vocal fold nodules?
A
- Low-pitched, whispery voice
- Hoarseness
- Altered vocal range

What is typically seen on laryngoscopy in vocal cord nodules?
A
- Bilateral lesions at the junction of the anterior 1/3 and posterior 2/3 of the vocal folds
- Symmetric, pinhead-sized, pale nodules
- Variable colour, contour, and/or shape

What is the management for vocal fold nodules?
A
- Conservative management (voice rest, smoking cessation, treat GORD)
- Microsurgical removal
