What is vestibular neuritis/neuronitis?
A
Inflammation of the vestibular nerve with features of vestibular hypofunction, such as vertigo, nausea, vomiting, and gait instability

What is the cause of vestibular neuronitis?
A
- Idiopathic
- Viral URTIs

What are the clinical features of vestibular neuronitis?
A
- Severe vertigo
- Nausea and vomiting
- Gait instability
- Horizontal nystagmus
- Risk of falling to affected side
*No hearing loss or tinnitus

What is the management of vestibular neuronitis?
A
- Vestibular rehabilitation exercises (preferred in chronic symptoms)
- Buccal or IM prochlorperazine (rapid relief)
- Short oral course of prochlorperazine or antihistamines
