Hunter-gatherer
A person who relies on hunting animals and gathering food rather than farming.
Sectionalism
Strong loyalty to the interests of one’s own region our section of a country, rather than the country as a whole.
Louisiana Purchase
A land deal in 1803, when the U.S bought a large territory from France, doubling the size of the nation.
Industrialization
The process of developing industries and factories on a large scale, shifting from agriculture to manufacturing.
Frontier
The edge of settled land, where civilization meets wilderness or undeveloped territory.
Communism
A political and economic system, where all property is owned by the community, and everyone shares resources equally.
Economy
The system of production, distribution, consumption of goods and services in a society.
Exports
Goods or services that are produced in one country and sold to other countries.
Province
A political division or region within a country, similar to a state.
Confederation
A union of groups, states or nations that work together for a common purpose, while retaining independence.
Parliament
A legislative body of government, often found in countries with a democratic system, responsible for making laws.
Prime Minister
The head of the government in the parliamentary system, responsible for running the government.
First Nations
Indigenous people of Canada, distinct from the Inuit and Metis, with their own cultures and histories.
