What is the purpose of a VT eval?
determine a diagnosis or diagnoses and determine the best treatment approach
What are possible diagnoses?
BV dysfunction, accommodative dysfunction, oculomotor dysfunction, visual perceptual dysfunction/visual information processing dysfunction
What are possible treatment approaches?
plus lenses, in office VT, home VT, occlusion
T/F evals are preferably done after a comprehensive exam?
true, refraction should be assess and patient given time to adapt to new Rx, ocular heath evaluated and treatment initiated/completed
What is important for school aged children in the VT history tab?
school name, current grade, and teachers name
What are components of the VT eval?
CC, Hx, meds and allergies, mood and orientation, chair skills
Which chair skills should always be performed for billing purposes?
VA distance and near, Pupils, EOMs, CVFs
What four main areas are assessed in a VT eval?
teaming, tracking, focusing, and visual perception
What is teaming?
fusion, binocularity (possible strabismus and amblyopia diagnoses)
What is tracking?
oculomotor (saccaddes/pursuits)
What is focusing?
accommodation
Which skills are part of visual skills/efficiency?
teaming, tracking, focusing
What tests asses teaming?
cover test D&N, NPC at least 3 teams, stereopsis (W4D as needed), phorioas D&N, vergence ranges
What tests asses tracking?
Maples, KD, DEM, readalyzer/righteye
What tests asses focusing?
lag of accommodation (MEM or FCC), accommodative amplitude, accommodative facility +/-2, NRA/PRA
