Virology Flashcards
Class of antiviral drug to which acyclovir belongs
Nucleoside analogue
Interferes with DNA polymerase causing chain termination and an incomplete sugar ring.
Role of HIV in malignancy
HIV not oncogenic. Immunosuppression increases chance of viral persistence/expansion. This allows for acquisition time for mutations and cells may undergo malignant change.
What may provoke HSV reactivation
Sunlight Stress Febrile illness Menstruation Immunosuppression
How to diagnose HSV
