Vessels Flashcards
Blood Vessles have 3 layers. What are there names?
- Tunica Intima
- Tunica media
3.Tunica Externa
Tunica Intima
innermost lining
Tunica media
What layer is it?
what does in contain?
middle layer. contains smooth muscle
Tunica Externa
What layer is it?
what does it do?
Outermost layer that anchors vessels to adjacent tissues
Which diameter does vessel contraction/relaxation change?
The inner diameter
What is contraction of vessles known as?
Vaso/venoconstriction
What is relaxation of vessles known as?
vaso/vendodilation
Arteries
(3 main points)
-Largest muscle for systemic blood delievery
-thick muscular walls are highly elastic to withstand PRESSURE
-no gas echange
Arterioles
(what do they help with)
-Smaller branch of arteries that has thin, muscular walls that can contract to help with direction of blood flow
Capillariers
(3 main points)
-The smallest vessles
-thin walls DO permit gas exchange
-Have no muscle to control blood flow
Venules
-undirectional or multidirectional?
what do they help with?
-unidirectional branch of thin veins
-complient walls help with storing lots of blood
Veins
2 points
-The largest vessles for systemic blood return
-have compliant muscular walls and ONE-WAY valves to pump blood back to heart
What do veins do with blood?
what do arteries do with blood?
veins bring blood TO the heart
Artteries pump blood AWAY from heart
