Specialized Structures of the heart Flashcards
What do the specialized structures of the heart do?
iniate and/or conduct APs to depolorize myocytes which then produces myocardial contraction!
What is the order of the specialized structures that the signal travels down?
1.Sinoatrial (SA) node
2.Atrioventricular (AV) node
3.Bundle of his
4.Purkinje fibers
Sinoatrial (SA) node
-in the Right Atrium
-where the heart beat gets iniated via depolariation of atria
What is the SA node nicknamed?
The “pacemaker” of the heart because it depolorizes at a regular rythem
What innervates the SA node and what does that mean control wise?
The autonmoic nervous system innervates the SA node which means that the autonomic nervous system can control Heart rate
Atrioventricular (AV) node
-in right atrium
-recieves depolorization signal from SA node and delays it to give the atria time to contract before sending it to the bundle of his
Bundle of His
-located between L and R atria and ventricles
-gives rise to bundles branches and than relays signals to depolorize the purkinje fibers
purkinje fibers
-innervate within myocardium R and L ventricles
-recieves signal to depolorize and stimulates both ventricles to contract
