Cardiovascular Parameters Flashcards
Heart Rate (HR)
-the number of times a heart contracts (beats) in a given time period
-usually measures in minutes
*Resting: 60-100 bpm
*Normal max:200-220 for college aged students and athletes (limited by genetics, age, and training)
Ejection Fraction (EF)
-REALATIVE amount in percent of blood pumped out from left ventricle at each beat
*EF=(SV/EDV) x100
Stroke Volume (SV)
-an ABSOLUTE amount (in mLs) of blood pumped out of the left ventricle at each beat
*SV=End Dialostic Volume-End Systolic volume
-heavily infuluenced by total blood volume and venous blood return as well as body postition
*resting: 75 mL/beat
*normal mas: up to 150 mL/beat
Cardiac output (Q)
-rate of blood flow through the heart per minute
*Q=HRxSV
-Determinant of blood pressure
*resting: 5 L/min
*normal max: 20-25 L/min
What is cardiac output impacted by?
Stroke volume and Heart rate!!
What are the two types of blood pressure?
Systolic and diaslostic
Systolic Blood Pressure (SBP)
-pressure against artery valls during ventricular contraction (systole)
*resting:115-120 mm Hg
*normal mas: up to 350 mm Hg
Dialostioc Blood pressure (DBP)
-during ventricular relaxation (dialostle) when arterial pressure falls
*resting: 75-80 mm Hg
*normal max: up to 250 mm Hg
Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP)
-difference between venous blood flow and arterial blood flow
*there should always be a difference!!
Total Peripheral Resistance (TPR)
a main regulator of systemic blood flow
*amount of pressure a heart has to work against (pressure in vessles)
Rate Pressure Product (RPP)
-indicated Oxygen (O2) requirements of heart
