Heart chambers and valves + more Flashcards
What do the chambers of the heart do?
Direct blood flow!
What are the two top chambers called?
The atria/atrium
What are the two bottom chambers called?
Ventricles
Right Atriun (RA):
collects
pumbs blood to
collects: De-oxygenated venous blood from systemic circulation via the superior and inferior vena cava
Pumps blood to: The Right Ventricle (RV)
Right Ventricle (RV):
recieves
pumbs blood to
revieves: de-oxygenated blood from the Right Atrium
pumps blood to: the pulmonary ARTERY to go to the lungs
Left Atrium
collects
pumbs blood to
collects: oxygenated blood from lungs via pulmonary VEIN
pumps blood to: the left ventricle
Left ventricle
Receives
pumps blood to
Recieves: oxygenated blood from the left atrium
pumps blood to: Aorta into systemic circulation
What do the valves in the heart do?
seperate the chambers and regulate blood flow WITHIN the heart
What do Atrioventricular valves do? What are the two we learned about?
Atrioventricular valves seperate atria and ventricles
Tricuspid valve and Mitral valve
Tricuspid valve
Allows for blood to flow from RIGHT artrium to right ventricle
Mitral Valve
Allows blood to flow from LEFT atrium to left ventricle
What are the two semicircular valves?
Pulmonary valve and aortic valve
Pulmonary valve
allows blood to flow from right ventricle into the pulmonary ARTERY (so blood can go to lungs to get reoxygenized)
Aortic valve
allows blood to flow from left ventricle into aorta (then out for systemic circulation)
