Transition

Example: The weather made a quick transition from very hot to freezing
Confidential
Private, secret
Example: Respondents were assured that the census was confidential and would be used for statistical purposes only
Thrifty
Careful with money, economical
Example: He is quite thrifty and buys only used clothing that cost very little
Primary
First, most important
Example: Our primary goal is to train people for jobs that are actually available; other aspects of the program are secondary
Obsess
To haunt the mind
Example: He was obsessed with the idea that he was being followed
Prejudiced
Biased, judging in advance without enough evidence
Example: Since I have never liked westerns, I was prejudiced against the film before I ever saw it
Contempt
Feeling of hatred, dislike, strong disapproval
Example: Her feelings of contempt were obvious in the hateful letter she wrote.
Resent
To feel or express annoyance; to feel ill will
Example: His constant teasing made me resent the very sight of him.
Quarrel
To argue, to disagree
Example: The newly married couple quarreled about how much money to spend or save
Expel
To push or force out
Examples: When a balloon bursts, the air is expelled in a rush
Legible
Written clearly, able to be read
Example: Please print or type, if your handwriting is not legible
Spiteful
Mean, unkind, hurtful
Example: The spiteful bully kicked me in the shin for no reason
Assert
To claim or state positively
Example: She asserted her title to the property
Fickle
Likely to change
Example: Young children often have fickle food preferences
Random
In an unplanned; without order or pattern
Example: The papers had been strewn randomly about the room
