You are given a verb pattern. Try to remember its meaning and compair it to the other pattern with the same verb.
Stop Ving
Quit (You really should stop smoking)
Stop to V1
Take a break in order to do sth else (The driver stopped to smoke for a minute and then got back in the car)

Have memories (She will always remember going to Paris that year)

Fulfill a duty (You forgot to feed the cat again)
Regret Ving
Realize one shouldn`t have done sth (I really regret stealing from my parents when I was a teenager)
Regret to V1
Feel sorry (I regret to inform you that you`ve failed you test)
Try to V1
Put some effort into doing sth (Try not to be late this time, we are not going to wait for you)
Try Ving
Experiment (If you cannot fall asleep, try drinking some hot milk before bed time)
Mean to V1
Intend (Sorry, I didn`t mean to offend you)

Have a meaning when talking about an activity - not a verb pattern (Succeeding means working hard)
Prefer to V1
Act according to one`s preferences at the moment (In the game room the girl prefered to do a puzzle while the boy prefered to play with toy cars)
Prefer Ving
Have general preferences (I usually prefer swimming to tennis)
Go on to V1
Finish one part of the plan and start the next one (We decided on the schedule and went on to discuss other details)
Go on Ving
Proceed with the same activity (He went on talking despite the fact that nobody was listening to him)
