Define the words given
acid rain
rain that contains harmful chemicals that collect in the atmosphere when fossil fuels are burned
carbon footprint
a measurement of the amount of carbon-dioxide a person adds to the atmosphere
ban
to not allow something (eg. smoking, alcohol, plastic bags, protest marches, etc.)
climate change
global changes in temperature, wind patterns, rainfall, etc. mainly caused by the burning of fossil fuels like coal and oil
conservation
the protection and preservation of natural environments and resources
consume
to use things like energy, fuel, materials, food, water, etc.
developing country
a poor nation that’s gradually becoming richer and more advanced
domestic waste
rubbish or garbage from a house or apartment
donate
to give money or goods to an organization you want to help or support
endangered species
animals or plants in danger of becoming extinct or disappearing in the near future
energy-efficient
able to use less energy (esp. of vehicles, appliances, buildings, etc.)
environmentalist
a person who protects the natural world and educates others about environmental problems
emit
to release or project something (eg. light, sound, smoke, gas, radiation, etc.)
extinct
no longer existing or lost forever (of an animal, bird or plant species)
greenhouse gas
a gas in the atmosphere that stops heat from escaping into space
habitat
the place in which a species normally lives
pollution
the contamination of the environment, esp. by industrial waste products and chemicals like pesticides
preserve
to keep something in its original state
recycle
to make something new from materials that have been used before
reduce
to use less or make something smaller
zero-emission
releasing no greenhouse gases like carbon-dioxide or methane

1) Is global warming real? What consequences can it have? Can it be stopped? How?
2) Do you face any environmental problems in your region? What do you/does your family do to help the environment?
3) Is helping the environment everyone`s job or is it a responsibility of the government/local authorities? Why?
4) What is responsible consuming? Do you consume responsibly? Why?
5) Is nuclear power more or less environmentally friendly than using fossil fuel? Why?
