ventricular tachycardia Flashcards
What is it?
Increased ventricular contraction over 100 bpm
blood let out of ventricles in spoonfuls
How is it different to sinus tachycardia
sinus tachycardia only occurs during exercise
the increased rate of contraction in sinus tachycardia is generated from the SAN.
In ventricular tachycardia the increased contraction is generated by premature ventricular contractions- 3 or more in a row.
in ventricular tachycardia the rate is almost over 250 bpm rather than being closer to 100
symptoms
- fatigue
- chest pain
- SOB
- diziness
- Palpitations
ECG presentation
QRS complexes are closer together
QRS complexes are broad.
no P waves
Therapy
Cardioversion: medication to decrease HR or electrical impulse to decrease HR on the R wave
Radiofrequency cardioablation : destroys tissue which is responsible
ICD implant
What is Torsades de point?
A particular type of VT
Found in patients with long QT syndrome
Short-long-short RR waves
It is congenital
