ventricular fibrilaltion Flashcards
1
Q
What is it?
A
Lots of small ventricular contractions rather than 1 big contraction- muscle fibres do not all contract at the same time
2
Q
how does it develop
A
Heart becomes stressed
Tissue heterogeneity- cells act differently
PVC- premature ventricular contraction- more than 3 in a row
3
Q
Treatment
A
Debrillator
ICD
medications to reduce further episodes
4
Q
Indications for ICD
A
Temporary: -through electrolytes in the skin -prophylactic when patient at high bradycardia risk -intermittant bradycardia Permanent: -through implanted device -2nd/3rd degree block -AV block becomes associated with neurodegenerative disease -Sinus node disease -Syncope with RBB/trifascicular block -carotid sinus hypersensitivity
5
Q
ventricle contraction rate
A
300-500bpm
6
Q
Difference between ventricular tachycardia and ventricular fibrillation?
A
ventricular tachycardia is a regular abnormally fast rhythm
Ventricular fibrillation is an abnormal abnormally fast rhythm
7
Q
ECG
A
no P waves, QRS complexes or T waves
