  • Emboli: blood clot, air bubble which moves to vessel and occludes it
  • Thrombi: blood clot which forms in situ and blocks blood vessel

Presentation

A

6P’s:

  • pain
  • pallor
  • paraestesia
  • perishingly cold
  • pulselessness
  • paralysis

Compartment syndrome:

  • muscle ischaemia, inflammation, oedema, vein obstruction
  • tender calf
  • rise of kinase creatinine
  • potential renal failure

Treatment

A

If limb is salvageable:

  • emboli= embolectomy
  • thrombosis= thrombolectomy, embolectomy, bypass
