Ventricular system Flashcards
what is a ventricle?
A ventricle is a fluid filled space developed from the neural canal - cavity of the neural tube. it is lined by ependyma (lining of glia cells)
How many ventricles do we have
4 interconnected cavities filles with CSF 2 lateral 3rd ventricle 4th ventricle
how do the ventricles communicate?
The lateral ventricle to third via interventricular foramen of Monro The third to fourth via the central aquaduct of sylvius The fourth to the subarachnoid space via - 2 lateral foramina (Magendie) - 1 median foramen (Luschka) The fourth ventricle then narrows and formes the canal of the spinal cord.
What are the circumventricular organs?
spaces where there is no BBB
Name the circumventricular organs
3 sensory
2 secretory
Sensory
- area posterma
- vascular organ of lamina terminalis
- subfornical organ
Secretory
- subcommissural organ
- median eminence
Name the parts of the lateral ventricle
- frontal/ anterior horn
- cental part/ body
- atrium
- occipital/posterior horn
- temporal/inferior horn
where is the third ventricle located?
Unpaired space between the left and right thalamus and hypothalamus
Where is the fourth ventricle located?
pyramidal space between the brainstem (pons + medullaobligata) and the cerebellum
what is CSF?
cerebrospinal fluid
is is the lymph of the brain
what is the CSF circulatin?
from blood capillarys to ventricular spaces to subarachnoid space to dural sinuses to venous system
