venous system of the brain Flashcards
Which two division sof veins do we have in the brain?
The supratentorial (deep and superficial) for cerebrum The infratentorial (cerebellar veins ac. arteries)
What are the deep veins if the cerebrum?
Internal cerebral vein on the roof of the third ventricle Great cerebral vein of Galenos under the splenium of the corpus collosum
What formes the Internal cerebral vein?
anastomosis of three veins: 1. Anterior vein of septum pellucidum 2. superior choroid vein 3. superior thalamostriate vein
What formes the Great cerebral vein of Galenos?
it is an unpaired vein formed by the fusion of the two Internal cerebral veins
Where does the Great vein of Galenos drain?
Straight sinus
What are the emissary veins?
they connect the sinuses of the dura mater to the to the extracranial veins
Name the superficial veins of the brain?
- superior cerebral vein
- superficial middle cerebral vein
- superior anastomotic vein
- inferior anastomotic vein - deep middle cerebral vein
(runs together with middle cerebral artery)
- inferior cerebral vein
- basal vein of Rosenthal
Where can we find the superficial middle cerebral vein and what are the two anastomoses?
Runs along the lateral cerebral sulcus
- superior anastomotic vein of Troland
(connect to the superior saggital sinus)
- inferior cerebral vein of Labbe
(connects to the transvers sinus)
Where does the basal cerebral vein drain?
Into the Great cerebral vein if Galenos
what encloses the dural sinuses?
dura mater and endothelium
what makes the dural sinuses different from normal veins?
they dont have valves and they are not able to collapse when damages.
how many sinuses do we have?
we have 12 sinuses and one confluence of sinuses
Name the sinuses
- confluence of sinuses
- 1 superior saggital sinus
- 2 straight sinus
- 2.1 inferior saggital sinus
- 3 occipital sinus
- 4 marginal sinus
- transvers sinus
- 1 sigmoid sinus
- basilar plexus
- cavernous sinus
- 1 sphenoparietal sinus
- 2 superior petrosal sinus
- 3 inferior petrosal sinus
