As well as its more literal meaning (to come to do sth), the construction or perífrasis verbal ‘venir a+infinitivo’ has two similar closely related interpretations

  1. culmination. 2. approximation.
  2. When followed by certain transitive verbs, the idea of culmination ties in with the idea of something producing a result. It is often lost in translation.

→¿Qué hace Juan aquí? -Ha venido a decirme que deja la empresa — -What’s Juan doing here? -He’s come to tell me that he’s leaving the company [See: preposición ‘a’ finalidad]
