How do you know if it’s safe to drive through a ford and what do you do after?
There is a depth gauge sometimes which will allow you to decide if it is safe to drive through. You then have to use a lower gear, drive through and then dry your brakes by keeping them pressed lightly
Why shouldn’t you use foglights when they are not needed?
- Can dazzle other drivers
- Your brake lights can’t be seen as well so other drivers may not know what you are doing
What are red studs used for?
Mark the left hand edge of the carriageway
What are amber studs for?
Mark the central reservation
What could you put on your wheels when it’s snowing and why?
Snow chains because they prevent skidding and it has better grip
What lights do you use on the motorway at night?
Dipped headlights and sidelights if you are broken down on the hard shoulder
What gear do you pick when you are driving down a steep hill?
A lower gear as this will stop your brakes from overheating which could make them less effective
What gear do you use when you are driving up a steep hill?
A higher gear because your engine is working harder so you can slow down sooner
What is a rumble device?
It is raised markings on the road that make noise to alert you of a hazard or make you reduce speed
When do you leave sidelights on when you are parked?
When the speed limit is more than 30 or if it is foggy
When can you overtake another vehicle on the left?
When you are passing on a one-way street
When will you feel the effects of engine braking?
When you are changing to a lower gear
When are you allowed to wait in a box junction?
When you are turning right but oncoming traffic prevents you from turning
What lights must you use if you are travelling on a lit motorway at night?
