What are 3 types of lines on the road?
- Lines in the middle of the road
- Lines on the side of the road
- Lines across the road
Name 4 types of line in the middle of the road
- short broken white lines
- longer broken white lines
- double white lines
- diagonal lines or chevrons
Name 3 types of line on the side of the road
- White line
- Yellow line
- Zigzag line white or yellow
Name 3 lines across the road
- Broken line across the road
- Solid line
- Various markings like the give way triangle or road hump markings
Centre line on a single or dual carriageway
Lane line separating traffic travelling in the same direction
This is a hazard warning line and a vertical sign will alert you of the nature of the hazard. This is also used for approaches to junctions
These are hatched markings which are diagonal lines with broken lines which separate opposing sides of traffic. They can be used when approaching a traffic island or the start of a dual carriageway. Don’t enter unless safe to do so
Part of a carriageway where vehicles travel in the same direction on both sides of the chevrons. Don’t enter unless safe to do so. Usually used when an exit lane leaves at a junction
Vehicles travel in the same direction and this is used for exits on the dual carriageway or segregated turns at a roundabout. Don’t enter unless emergency
Reduction in the number of lanes or area not available to traffic don’t cross
Solid white line on both sides, no overtaking in either direction. if one of them is broken, that side can overtake, the other can’t
On the edge of the road to indicate the edge of the carriageway
No parking or stopping at any time
