The DR ABC code:
Danger - check its safe to approach
Response - Try to get a response by gently shaking the casualty and asking if they are alright
Airway - If there’s no response, open the casualty’s airway by lifting their chin forward
Breathing - Check the casualty is breathing normally and look for breathing and feel for breath on your cheek
Circulation - check for bleeding signs

What do you during CPR?

A

Interlock fingers and place them in the centre of the casualty’s chest and press down hard and fast about 2 times a second down 5 cm. If it’s a child use one hand only, if its an infant use two fingers

What should you do if the casualty is bleeding?

A

Take care not to expose yourself to blood. If there is something in the wound, do not take it out. Place padding on each side of the object. If there is nothing in the wound apply firm pressure and find the cleanest material available to fasten against their wound

What do you do if someone is suffering from shock and how do you know?

A

They will be pale grey, sweating and have a rapid pulse. You should:

  • Reassure them
  • Keep them warm
  • Make them comfortable
  • Avoid moving them if necessary
  • Make sure they aren’t left alone

What do you do if someone is suffering from burns?

A

Douse the burns thoroughly in cool water for 20 minutes and don’t remove anything stuck to the wound

A

Stop and give your name and address. If there is damage to the property, report it to the owner. If you don’t do this when it happens, report it to the police station within 24 hours.
