Vasculature of TAP Flashcards
What are the paired arteries to the body wall in the abdomen?
Inferior phrenic
Lumbar a.
Median sacran
What are the arteries to retroperitoneal organs? Are they paired?
Middle suprarenal
Renal
Gonadal
Yes.
What are the unpaired midline vessels of the abdomen?
SMA
Celiac trunk
IMA
How does the venous system compare to arterial in abdomen?
Same…except:
Paired hepatic veins which drain the liver into the IVC
How do the gonads receive/drain blood?
Direct drainage to IVC on RIGHT side (and direct from aorta)
on LEFT side, veins drain into the renal vein (aorta branches directly)
Called testicular or ovarian vessels in male/female
Where do the majority of the arteries come from that supply the pelvis?
Internal iliac artery
clinically referred to as hypogastric
What are the 2 branches of the internal iliac artery?
Anterior and Posterior
What are the 3 branches of the posterior br. of internal iliac?
- Iliolumbar (iliac a and lumbar a)
- Lateral sacral
- Superior gluteal
What are the branches of the anterior br. of internal iliac?
- Umbilical -> sup vesicle
- Obturatory
- Inferior vesical (m)
- Uterine (f)
- Vaginal (f)
- Middle rectal
- Inferior pudendal
- Inferior gluteal
Where is the epidural venous plexus?
Inside the vertebral column
What are the 2 venous drainage sites of the superficial TAP veins?
Femoral or Axillary
Where do the splenic, SMV, IMV, and left/right gastric veins drain?
Into the portal vein
What are the portocaval anastomoses?
- Esophageal
(the L gastric vein drains the distal esoph. into portal vein. Can reverse if portal system is blocked). - Paraumbilical (lie along ligamentum teres drain into the portal vein directly)
- Rectum (normally superior rectal -> IMV)
What is a symptom of a blocked portal system (esophageal)?
Vomiting bright red blood (from burst esophageal varices as more blood is forced up the veins there)
What is a symptom of a blocked portal system (paraumbilical)?
Caput madusae (giant enlarged veins on a very distended abdomen)
