Variation Functions Flashcards
What is Direct Variation?
The relationship between two variables, x and y, that can be written in the form y=kx. k cannot = 0. The ratio of the two quantities is always constant.
What is the Constant of Variation?
k in y=kx.
What is Joint Variation?
A variation among three variables that can be written in the form y=kxz. k is still the constant of variation.
What is the formula for Inverse Variation?
y=k/x.
What is the relation of the two quantities in Inverse Variation?
The product of the two quantities is constant.
What is Combined Variation?
A relationship that combines both direct and inverse variation. Quantities that vary directly appear in the numerator, and quantities that vary inversely appear in the denominator.
