Series and Summation Notation Flashcards
What is Summation Notation?
A series of numbers can be represented by using Summation Notation, which uses the Greek letter Sigma to denote the sum of a sequence defined by a rule.
What are the parts of the Summation Notation Formula?
The top number is the last value of k. The number by the Sigma is the explicit formula for sequence (for example, 2k) and the bottom value is the first value of k (for example, k=1).
What is a Series?
A series is the indicated sum of the terms of a sequence.
What is the Linear Series Formula?
For a Linear Series; if you take the top number and then multiply it by itself plus 1 n(n+1) and then divide it by two, that will be your answer.
What is the Quadratic Series Formula?
(n(n+1)(2n+1))/6.
