VARIABLES Flashcards
Co variabeles
measurements that have been made and are compared to see if they are associated.
- in a correlational study two measured co variables are assessed for a relationship
- relationship between co variables doesnot necessarily indicate a casual relationship
independent variable
is manipulated by the researcher
dependent variable
researcher measures the changer or difference
extraneous variables
any avriable other than the iv that could the inluence the measreument of the dependent variable.
participant variable
in an independent group design, if there are more people with relevant characteristics or skills related to task in one condition this could affect the performance in different conditions.
situational variables
environmental factors present in one condition but not the other condition could reasonably lead to a change in behaviour beyween the conditions.
confounding variables
- any vairables other than iv that changes systematically between the levels of iv.
- as we change the iv, we also change the confounding variable so true effect of iv cant be seen.
