- range of data is collected from individual, organisation or institution mainly from interviews and observations

strengths of case study
A
- detailed so able to gain data in depth . holistic approach to conducting research is favoured by humanistic psychologistics arguing depth of detail gives highly valuable insights and a true reflection of a persons experience.

limitations of case studies
A
- not generalisable to whole population as data is only collected from one person
- various interviewer biases are present like social desirability bias and interpretative bias
- retrospective studies may rely on memory which could be inaccurate
- time consuming and difficult to replicate.
