Validity Flashcards
What is validity
Extent to which a study or test measured what it intended to measure
2 type of validity
External and internal
What is external vaildity
To what extent the findings and conclusions of the study can be applied beyond the study
3 types of external validity
- population
- ecological
- temporal
Population vaildity
The what extent the findings can be generalised to other groups of people
Ecological validity
To what extent findings can be generalised to other situations outside of the research
Temporal validity
Generalising findings of a study to other historical periods
What is internal validity
Extent to which n observed effect was de to the independant variable rather than other factors
What is face validity
Does the test look, ‘on the face of it’, as if it measures what it claims to measures
What is concurrent validity
Ptps given alternate test that has already been established as valid and a new test, 2 sets of scores are obtained
- compared and if strong positive correlation suggests test is valid
