-The aim was to eliminate any remaining legal distinctions between genders.

By 1900, women already had at least a token foothold in most occupations.

-Most were concentrated in traditional female occupations: domestic servants, office workers, teachers and dressmakers.
How did women enjoy lifestyle changes in the 1920s?
-More women spent their leisure time at dance halls, in cinemas and at sports clubs.
-Women’s increased liberation was reflected in fashion. Corsets went out of fashion. Hemlines rose, hair became bobbed.
-Cosmetics became a growth industry.
Were Flappers over represented in the media?
YES. Young women who adopted the latest crazes and fashions, with shorter hair and skirts were fewer than the media suggested.

-NO. There was still very few women.
How did the Depression effect women in employment? What were the attitudes towards women working outside of home?
-The depression caused the loss of women workers.
-Many employers felt that men should be employed ahead of women.

-13 million were in work by 1940.

-NO. Many women still picked up stereotypical female jobs such as secretaries or working in bakery’s.

-It had developed into a code exalting love and companionship instead of the old patriarchal code.
