- custer and his 200 men are killed in 20 minutes
- native americans defended themselves against Custer’s charge
- US army uses this as a rally cry for further attack of the native americans
- attempts by the Union Army to settle native americans on reservations in south dakota

- attempt to “americanize” native americans
- native children sent to US schools to learn English
- attempt to get rid of Native American culture

1890 - wounded knee
A
- 300 unarmed native americans gunned down by US army
- bodies left on the frozen ground
- tipping point for native americans - many tribes will move to reservations to avoid death
