- rice = principal exported crop from the Carolinas
- native Americans used as slaves
- need for west African slaves will grow as rice is cultivated further
- Charles Town = busiest seaport in the South - the colonists in the Carolinas are doing a lot of things right and are flourishing

- reputation for being irreligious
- separates from south Carolina in 1712

- the Native Americans lose the war and hundreds of Native Americans sold into slavery
- Tuscarora Tribe would join the Iroquois Confederacy
