USA felt kindly towards china who was weak but increasingly fearful of japan which was strong. Japan invaded China in WW2 -> president Franklin Roosevelt declared Chiang Mai Kai-sheiks an important ally. against japan.
however why was Roosevelt disappointed by china?
disappointed on china’s inept performance and could not understand why Chinese nationalists and Mao Zedong could not unite to concentrate on the Japanese threat.
Effect of WW2 on us- sino relations?
war ended -> US optimistic about friendship with china, although unrealistic about Chiang’s prospects in his struggles with Mao. Zedong.Good. post war relations with china seemed likely
