URR Signs and Symptoms of LE A Disease Flashcards
Risk factors?
-smoking (vasoconstriction)
-hyperlipidemia
-fam hx
-diabetes
-systemic HTN
-sedentary lifestyle
-Age
-males at higher risk
for the LE what gets palpated?
-pedal
-PTA and DPA
so can the distal AO, fem A, and pop A
bounding pedal pulses means?
normal
grading of pedal pulses?
-0 (none)
-1+ (weak)
-2+ (good)
-3+ (strong)
-4+ (bounding)
significant stenosis can lead to thrill
what can cause a bruit?
-IA and CFA can cause a bruit
-psuedoanurysm and AV fistula will cause increase
-if bruit occurs throughout cycle indicates possible severe stenosis
grading for bruit?
-1+ (mild)
-2+ (moderate)
-3+ (severe)
capillary splash response
press finger on extrem to create pallor, time delay until color returns
-indicates significant disease ischemia
signs and symptoms of arterial disease?
-pallor
-dependent rubor: when patient sits up legs become red
-cyanosis
-gangrene (arterial gangrene usually involves 1 or more toes)
-reduced or absent pedal pulses
-bruit
-thrill
-caludication
-rest pain
-delayed capillary blush response (> 2 )
-trophic changes (dry skin, nails, hair loss)
-cool temp
-ulcerations/tissue loss
-blue toe syndrome
what is thrill
palpable turbulence
most common symptom of PAD?
claudication
what is claudication?
-pain that subsides with rest
-pain occurs distal to obstruction/disease
-3 most common sites (buttock-aortoiliac disease, thigh - iliac or femoral occlusive disease, calf -femo pop disease)
pseudoclaudication?
similar to symptoms of true but is due to orthopedic or neurogenic causes, bot consistently reproducible
rest pain is associated
-associated with severe disease
-relief of symptoms when extremity is put in dependent position
what is blue toe syndrome?
embolic material lodges in digital A
what are the 6 Ps of acute arterial occlusion?
-pain
-pallor
-pulselessness
-paresthesia
-paralysis
-polar sensation - cold
