Urodynamic tests : diagnose cause of incontinence
Cystoscopy : invasive procedure
Imaging : X-ray MRI ( Bladder scan : ultrasound bladder scan -> assess bladder volume to identify urinary retention)
types of incontinence
stress : coughing, sneezing, laughing
overflow : absent of signal to urinate
reflex: Involuntary voiding without the urge sensation / spinal cord injury
urge: inability to suppress the need to voiding cause: UTI
Factor affects urination
age : infants: toliet training begins at 2 / elderly : decrease muscle tone
medication
pathologic conditions : kidney failure
psychological factor : stress
activity and muscle tone
food and fluid intake
Nursing care after insert indwelling catheter
Monitor urine output ( volume, odour, color)
Monitor catheter
Prevent infection ( use strict aseptic techniques/ BSB must be lowe than bladder level / avoid BSB touching the floor )
