-ve : difficult to keep the mask in position/ cause skin breakdown / difficult to eat and talk
Non-breather mask

Assements before suctioning
assess lung sounds/ respiratory distress/ vital signs/ breathing patterns/ general conditions
Preparations before suctioning
Conscious patient : semi-Fowler’s position
Unconscious patient : lateral position
Increase oxygen level
apply for 5-10 secs
100-150mmHg
Possible complications of suctioning
vomiting and gagging
infection
bloody aspirate
cardiac arrhymias
